About Us
Durango Herald Small Press is a small,
independent publisher, specializing
in award-winning books about the people,
places and events of the Four Corners region. The "Small Press" was established in 1995 by
Morley Cowles Ballantine, owner of the Durango Herald from 1952-2009. For more than sixteen years, we have
published texts and images by regional authors,
poets and photographers.
The Four Corners region is a land of mountains and canyons, deserts and rivers, part of the Colorado Plateau which has more National Forests, parks and monuments, and wilderness areas than anywhere else on earth. Culturally diverse, the region is home to several Native American tribes, avid recreationists and environmentalists, entrepreneurs and scholars.
